Olympic Countdown event features Japan Women’s Softball National Team

11/09/2019

Members of the Japanese Women’s Softball National Team starred in the “Countdown Night”, a celebratory countdown to the return of the Summer Olympic Games to Japan organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan (FCCJ), in Tokyo. The President of the Japan Softball Association (JSA) Hiromi Tokuda, JSA Vice President Taeko Utsugi and the Head Coach of the National Team Reika Utsugi were also present in the event.

The Japanese players made a brief sports demonstration for the media present in the event, while Mr. Tokuda spoke about how much they are looking forward to the Olympics, especially being the opening event of the Games. Softball will consummate its historic return to the Olympic Games on Wednesday 22 July, 9 a.m., at Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium, being Tokyo 2020’s first official competition.

The FCCJ invited key members and players of the Japan Softball National Team, key Olympic corporate sponsors and stakeholders, current and former Olympians, as well as leading media and Club members, highlighting the countdown to the world’s greatest sporting event, the Summer Olympic Games.

The hosting of baseball softball events in Fukushima will support recovery efforts in the overall Tohoku region, which was hit in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

As stated in their own website, the FCCJ was founded in 1945 by newspaper, wire service, magazine, radio journalists and photographers who arrived in Japan following the end of the Pacific War. “Presidents, Prime Ministers, Statesmen, corporate titans, international arts, cultural and sports celebrities from Japan and around the world, as well as many others, famous and infamous, have visited FCCJ over the years”.
